How to Answer “Why did you leave your last job?”

ResumeForHire | Feb. 7, 2022

This question is a common one asked during interviews and on job applications. Before jumping the gun and answering, it is best to thoughtfully prepare your answer and deliver it effectively, so as not to ruin the likelihood of getting hired.

Do bear in mind that a short, brief answer is best. Refrain from giving too detailed of an explanation that would result in the interviewer asking additional questions, but do be honest. It is best to give a satisfactory answer so the interviewer can quickly proceed to the next question. However, do prepare for possible follow-up questions.

Another thing to note is to avoid bringing up this topic if the interviewer did not ask, especially if you were terminated.
