Overview

The Microscopy Technician will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and running the microscopy laboratory in R&D at Daisy Brand. This role will work closely with engineers and R&D scientists to better understand the function-microstructure relationship.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the project leader, design, plan, and conduct electron, fluorescence, and light microscopy examinations of dairy products, materials, and surfaces.
• Work collaboratively with the R&D team to achieve the research goals within the electron microscopy framework.
• Document protocols and write standard operating procedures for all microscopy work.
• Maintain all microscopy documents and manuals.
• Collect, document, and communicate experimental data, including images, images analysis, measures, and observations.
• Maintain the operation and coordinate the routine maintenance of the microscopy laboratory equipment.
• Assure optimal performance of all microscopy equipment.
• Stay up to date with the literature and apply advanced knowledge for protocol development and sample preparation.
• Monitor, order, and restock supplies.
• Assist with other R&D projects, as needed.

Organizational Relationships

The Microscopy Technician reports to the Research Laboratory Manager. Interaction with employees in R&D, Technical Services, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments is expected.

Schedule and Travel

Typically, workdays are 8 hours, Monday through Friday beginning at 7:30 to 8:00am. This schedule may change to accommodate project schedules. No business travel is expected.

Education, Training, and Experience

• B.S. or technical degree is required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with scanning electron microscopy operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of the electron microscopy components and operation.
• Expertise in the current methodologies used in electron microscopy applications.
• Experience with cryo-stage SEM is preferred.
• Excellent technical, communication, and training skills.
• Experience working with dairy products is a plus.
• Knowledge of image analysis is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
