Overview:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join the EH&S team in an EH&S Associate Engineer role to support our manufacturing facility in Torrington, CT. This role will be primarily supporting the shop floor day-to-day EH&S administration, compliance calendar and site inspections.
Responsibilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; EH&S related discipline preferred.
Associate Degree in EH&S related discipline with 4+ years’ experience in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: Minimum two years of industry experience preferred

Responsibilities
- Works within the EH&S team to support all environmental, health and occupational safety functions, including but not limited to identifying workplace hazards, recommending corrective actions, administering, and presenting safety training, and performing industrial hygiene testing and monitoring, per departmental protocols
- Participates in cross-functional teams and ensures EH&S goals are at the forefront of everyone’s projects and workday
- Administers and maintains FCE’s Torrington Contractor / Supplier management systems
- Supports corporate and departmental Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
- Supports corporate ESG initiatives
- Supports the EH&S department by completing required reports, spreadsheets, data processing and other documentation processes
- Works with internal departments to develop and implement EH&S programs and initiatives
- As part of the EH&S team, works with department personnel to inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Assists with the development and implementation of occupational health and safety programs
- Assists with reporting incident information into the incident management system and facilitate investigation procedures, root cause identification, and follow up on corrective actions
- Assists with staging and tracking shipment of non-hazardous, hazardous, and universal waste as required
- Research technical issues as they relate to Environmental Health and Safety concerns
- Makes recommendations on program improvements and compliance
- Supports ISO : 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO : 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System) functions to ensure compliance and ensure all safety hazards and environmental aspects are documented
- Administers controlled document management system
- Performs other duties as assigned

Candidate must possess / be knowledgeable in:
- Safety and Environmental Regulations: Safety and Environmental disciplines with knowledge of OSHA and the EPA. Candidate should also be knowledgeable or can become proficient in state specific EH&S regulations, including but not limited to Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing, within all levels of the organization.
- Internal client-facing and presentation ability.
- Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and respond quickly to change and with urgency.
- Ability to work effectively within a team or independently.
- MS Office Suite, with a strong proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to physically work in an office and manufacturing environment.
- Must be able and willing to frequently enter laboratory, warehouse, and shop floor environments, which require the ability to move from area to area inside the main building as well as to unconnected buildings in the immediate area.
- Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required.
- Must be willing to travel locally using own vehicle with reimbursement for expenses. Some domestic air travel may be required on a very infrequent basis
- Must be willing and able to respond to and participate in after-hours needs and requirements in support of the business.
