Job Description
This position will serve as a Ground Control Station Design Lead on the Human Performance Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) deployed to Skunk Works Programs. Main responsibilities will include:

  • cockpit and crewstation design and hardware selection/evaluation against requirements, documentation of designs for both deliverable drawing packages and vendor manufacturing support

  • coordination with internal leadership, vendors, suppliers, internal and external customers and contractors across multiple programs

  • supporting human factors assessments

  • mentoring junior crew station design engineers

The candidate will design and provide technical supervision for the design of cockpits and crewstations based on unique mission and environmental requirements, targeted trade studies, solicited customer feedback, working groups, and human factors assessments. Designs will be matured from the prototype phase, through the production phase, and into the support phase of the product life cycle.

The candidate must work well within a team, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with team members ranging from shop floor technicians through executive leadership. The candidate will be expected to maintain high level knowledge of Aeronautics’ cockpits and crewstations such as the F-35, F-22, F-16, U-2 and/or C-130 as well as Unmanned Air Systems Ground Control Stations in order to understand mission systems, mission capability gaps & needs, and basic concepts of employment in realistic combat environments.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college with 5-8 years of professional experience; or a related Master’s degree in with 3-5 years of professional experience

  • Experience with CATIA, 3DX, NX, or equivalent for 3D CAD design and 2D Drawing creation

  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards

  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Parametric 3D CAD Design

  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems

  • Experience with 3D CAD Digital Human Modeling technologies

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical design pertaining to cockpits and ground control stations

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472G and MIL-HDB-516C

  • Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering including usability, workload, and situational awareness assessments

  • Demonstrated experience managing budget and schedules including milestones, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and final deliverables
