Job Description

Construction Engineers: coordinates, inspects, and controls the work of construction contractors assigned to perform energy services contract work at Customer facilities. Ensures that quality workmanship is maintained at all times and in accordance with applicable construction procedures, methods, codes and specifications. Projects will include electrical, civil, mechanical, instrumentation & control engineering disciplines.


Manager of Construction: manages the construction engineering staff to ensure that energy services construction work at Customer facilities are assigned and executed in accordance with project schedule, authorized budget, and in conformance with the approved engineering design, contract documents, and all codes and standards; as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Work under close supervision, receiving advice and guidance from Construction Engineers and Senior Construction Engineers, as well as the Manager of Construction. All work is checked while in progress and reviewed for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform a variety of routine tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarize the engineer with his/her work group, engineering methods, construction management methods, practices, and programs of the Authority.
  • Tasks are limited in scope.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • This position requires solid quantitative skills with the ability to analyze data and report results.
  • Requires general engineering knowledge, and a basic understanding of the utility industry.
  • Written communications skills must be at a level at which the incumbent can request data, summarize analysis findings, and write routine internal memos.
  • Basic oral communication skills are necessary to interact with others in the unit/department.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Entry level position, no experience required.

Physical Requirements

  • Daily inspection of work areas throughout facility.
  • Some travel within New York State may be required.
  • Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale certain equipment is required.

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target hourly rate for this position is: $65,500-$80,000. The pay rate offered will be based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
