SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
Job Description
The City of Sherwood is looking for a progressive and innovative Senior Systems Administrator to join our team. The Senior Systems Administrator manages all activities related to IT support and IT implementation projects. Ensures full IT functionality on daily basis. Manages and deploys changes to current and new processes as it relates to IT. Analyzes, develops and implements IT system enhancement according to users’ needs and requirements. Ensure that all IT projects goals are accomplished according to specification and business objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology and will have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users within the organization.
This employee exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to management policies or to the general business operations of the City. As well as regularly and directly assist a proprietor, manager or exempt administrator or works under only general supervision while executing special assignments or performing specialized or technical work requiring special training, experience and/or knowledge.
Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
- Participates in design, planning, installation, and support of operating systems, applications, and services
- Communicates with end-users, management, and other departments
- Supervise and lead the IT Department
- Maintains effective communications with other groups
- Performs routine problem analysis and resolution design for systems and applications
- Performs and test routine system backups and restores
- Maintains reports regarding system downtime, plans for preventative maintenance, and disaster recovery
- Installs patches and upgrades to server hardware, firmware, and/or software
- Creates and maintains documentation of IT configuration, processes, and procedures
- Participates in and supports capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department management
- Participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Exercises independent judgment in the planning, scheduling, organizing, controlling, and monitoring of IT projects
- On-call for production system support
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- BS or BA degree and 8-10 years network and operating system support experience
- Solid understanding of Windows Server technologies
- Solid understanding of Active Directory administration, DFS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP network fundamentals and related equipment (switches, routers, etc.)
- Solid understanding of virtualization technologies
- Background with enterprise backup
- Must have well refined troubleshooting skills, ability to determine the root cause of a problem and identify and resolve systemic problems
- Must be self-motivated and a team player
- Must be willing to take on new duties as assigned
- Must be willing to take additional training to become proficient in new technology
