Natural Resource Technician

Job Description
Amentum is searching for a Casual Natural Resources Technician to perform a variety of tasks as directed by the Natural Resource Manager. The Natural Resources Technician will operate gasoline or diesel powered tractor to: move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, pull out objects embedded in ground, or pull cable of winch to raise, lower, or load heavy material or equipment.
Job Requirements:
Fastens attachments such as graders, plows, rollers, mowers (over 2000 lbs.),
backhoes, seeders, and disc harrows to tractor
Adjusts equipment for proper operation
Lubricates and makes minor repairs to tractor and attachments such as tightening bolts, and replacing washers, cotter pins, and screws
Support of the wildlife management program
Occupying the hunting reservation desk to track hunter check-in/out process
Maintenance of deer stands
Establishment and maintenance of wildlife supporting vegetation (food plots and early successional areas)
Observing and collecting data from wildlife harvest
Maintenance of duck blinds
Support of the forestry management program
Marking and measuring tree in a harvest preparation
Assisting in monitoring subcontractor work
Maintenance of fire lines
Assisting in prescribed burning
Trapping of nuisance wildlife
Equipment and tool maintenance
Maintenance of base recreational boating equipment
Monitoring base spillways and culvert crossings for wildlife damage
Others duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Experience operating a tractor
  • Experience operating boats (less than 30’)
  • Knowledge of Virginia DWR policies
  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Knowledge of native wildlife
  • Able to work early mornings, nights, and weekends
  • Able to bend, move, and lift up to 25 pounds or more
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active government clearance
