Distribution Planning - Engineer

Job Summary:

Distribution Planning is the organization in Power Delivery that performs system studies and analysis for Georgia Power Distribution facilities. As part of this process, analysis of the loading and voltage is performed to develop projects to ensure safe and reliable operation of these Distribution facilities.

This position will support the growing needs from our solar generators by providing Hosting Capacity maps of the Distribution system to aid the developers in their siting of potential projects. This position will be responsible to create base cases and determine the available Hosting Capacity for Solar load on each of our Distribution feeders.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop Georgia Power’s Hosting Capacity product. integration of feeder configurations and loading. Provide regular updates to the current conditions of our distribution feeders.

Run Cyme-Dist modeling to determine the available capacity on each circuit.

Verify and gather equipment data and perform consistent modeling output of Hosting Capacity.

Work with contractor on specific circuits of methodology of gathering of load data. allocation of load by connected kVA or by kWH consumption.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Behavioral Attributers):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Business is preferred; additional consideration of experience for electric utility industry certifications.
  • Minimum 2 years electrical utility distribution experience desired; additional consideration of Power Delivery experience.
  • Experience with CymeDist or other Distribution modeling software is helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective at building relationships with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work under deadlines to respond to customer demands.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete multiple tasks.
