We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to such advancements as autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more!
Propulsion system Noise & Vibration CAE Engineer is responsible for creating /updating virtual electric power drive unit simulation models using commercial tools for propulsion systems in order to understand the physics for root cause analysis and guide design development from concept to production to meet Noise and Vibration requirements. This is a hybrid role, both onsite and remote.
Responsibilities:
- Primarily consists of performing vibro-acoustic finite element-based analysis using set of commercial simulation tools; including motor and electric power drive unit model build and meshing, loads and boundary conditions application, results analysis, root cause analysis of issues, along with data interpretation and report writing.
- Develop design solutions to address airborne and structure borne motor whine (NVH) issues and propose engineering solutions with potential roadmaps to improve performance and meet functional NVH targets.
- Upfront design optimization of electric power drive unit for motor whine mitigation in consultation with cross-functional teams.
- As design matures, coordinate with prototype test to validate the CAE modeling /analysis and improve the simulation accuracy through data analysis and iterations.
- Develop and deploy advanced analytical concepts/methodologies to simulate NVH performance of upfront housing and/or motor enabling to significantly reduce the need for physical prototyping, reduce time-to-market and improve product quality.
- Automate / Democratize existing analysis workflows or processes to increase the turnaround rate of simulations for fast design iterations.
The minimum requirements we seek:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline required.
- 4 years of working knowledge of using CAE tools to predict Noise and vibration performance of Powertrain units.
- 3 or more years of relevant experience in CAE analysis for design and development of electric power drive units with emphasis on resolving structure and airborne motor whine issues thru vibro-acoustic analysis with focus on optimizing for motor excitations.
- 1 or more years of experience in using electromagnetic analysis tools (JMAG, Maxwell, Flux , Manatee or similar CAE tools) to characterize motor excitations.
Our preferred requirements:
- Master's in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Experience with commercial FEA tools for Pre-processing / Processing /Post-processing to build flexible components and assemblies and perform steady state modal and dynamic response analysis, preferably using Altair-Hyperworks and Nastran /Optistruct
- Experience with Simcenter 3D or Actran for Acoustic analysis to predict radiated noise (Airborne Whine)
- Matlab and Python Scripting experience for data processing / automation
- Working experience on the creation of Design of Experiments (DOE), Optimization Techniques and Robustness studies using ModeFrontier or similar commercial tools
- Experience with ‘CAE’ to ‘TEST’ correlation
- Critical thinking skills to connect analytical tools with physical hardware and NVH attribute performance.
What you’ll receive in return:
As part of the Ford family, you’ll enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more. You’ll also experience exciting opportunities for professional and personal growth and recognition.
