POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for a variety of engineering duties including day to day plant support, continuous improvement of production processes, process safety management, process design, management of small to medium size capital projects. This position will be a technical expert in the process chemistry and production processes at Chevron-REG facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Process Engineering
- Support day to day plant operations monitoring performance of the plant/product quality and coordinating with operations or maintenance to correct deviations as necessary
- Work with operations and other engineers to identify continuous improvement opportunities that make the process safer, increase throughput, improve quality, and reduce operating costs
- Development/modification of P&IDs, PFDs, material and energy balances, utility use, equipment design and specification
- Build process simulations to evaluate/optimize plant performance
- Review engineering designs by outside contractors for conformance to specifications and technology
- Leadership role in the plant’s PSM program including leading or participating in PHAs, Management of Change/PSSRs, mechanical integrity, and keeping process safety information up to date
- Working knowledge of RAGAGEPs such as but not limited to ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, API standards, and Chevron-REG internal quality and engineering standards
- Leading problem solving teams
Capital Projects
- Identify, justify, and prioritize capital improvement projects
- Leadership role in plant long term (5yr) capital planning and short term (1-2 yr) prioritization of projects for execution
- Lead process/design engineer on plant capital projects
- Participation on project teams for projects led by others
- Project manager on small to medium (typically <$500k) capital projects
- Development of project charter/success criteria, scope, schedule, and budget
- Writing and submitting capital requests
- Detailed equipment design and specification
- Negotiating contracts and purchase orders including terms and conditions with vendors/contractors
- Issuing monthly project reports
Other duties:
- Represent Chevron-REG at technical conferences and events as well as training on different equipment or processes
- Present plant results to senior leadership team
- University relations and college recruiting
- Writing and reviewing Chevron-REG developed standards; become a subject matter expert if required
- Community involvement and outreach
- Other duties as required/assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required: 4 year bachelor’s degree – Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related degree
Experience Required: 7-15 years in a process-related industry - preferably in organic chemical/ petrochemical processing, petroleum refining, edible oils, ethanol, or other renewable fuels industries
Desirable Certifications/Skills/Training:
Process simulation
PHA leadership
Pressure relief/relief device sizing and design
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Licensed Professional Engineer
MBA
Project Management
Technical Leadership
Expertise in software such as PI, Excel, and Tableau
