Job Description

The purpose of this position is to prepare Church magazine layouts and files to be used with translated
text so the design works across all language versions produced by the Unified Magazine Publishing Team. This position is also responsible to provide magazine content to web, mobile, and print channels, making sure we have efficient outputs, developing PDF interactivity when required, and ensuring strict compliance with design and style standards associated with Church publications. In this role you’ll find yourself interacting with the magazine editorial and design teams as you support content creation, development, and publishing including troubleshooting digital workflows and systems to make sure the organization meets its multichannel publishing deadlines. The position requires you to be a self-starter, with a mindset towards self-development and continuous improvement. You will be working independently as well as with teams to accomplish this challenging work. You will be expected to adapt to evolving demands in accomplishing the day-to-day work, solve problems, and work with team members in our fast-paced publication cycles.


· Executing transforms and scripts to process content from translation to web, mobile, and print
channels.

· Performing quality control reviews of web and mobile content.

· Troubleshooting errors and problems with content, files, and assets.

· Tracking content and assets for each magazine publication to ensure all content and media is accounted for.

· Coordinating with others to engage in continuous improvement at the individual and team levels.

· Updating language templates using InDesign.


Required Skillsets

· Knowledge of markup languages, text tagging, XML structure, and the function of XSLT utilities in production processes.

· Familiarity with HTML 5 principles and XSL syntax to execute transforms that prepare and repurpose text files for publishing platforms.

· Basic skills with industry-relevant design tools such as InDesign and the implications of varied font, styling, and layout parameters in global language sets.

· Detail orientation and accuracy with repetitive tasks.

· Effective collaboration skills.

· Capacity to identify and implement process improvement opportunities, including how we work with others across disciplines.

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications

· Bachelor-level degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, or Computer Science, plus 4 years of experience or equivalent (a combination of education and experience totaling 8 years will be considered).

· Basic design skills, InDesign, XML, HTML.
