The Role

Position Purpose

What’s the role –

The Staff Analyzer Engineer is a position in PACO/Instrumentation Department providing functional leadership, technical support, and strategic planning in the PACO (Process Automation, Control and Optimization) discipline for all production Analyzers at Shell Deer Park Chemicals. The Staff Analyzer Engineer is a key member of the Production Team supporting the unit to ensure safe, reliability operations by providing day-to-day assurance for the Analyzer install base at Shell Deer Park Chemicals.

The Staff Analyzer Engineer role is a highly collaborative and dynamic position and successful candidates must be able to work alone and as part of a team. You will be able to interface with maintenance crafts, operators, production support, other discipline personnel, contract engineers, and vendor/manufacturer’s representatives as well as multiple levels of the leadership organization.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support at the request of the Analyzer Field Specialist / Inspector, Operations or the Maintenance control systems planner/scheduler for diagnosing equipment problems and developing repair plans.
  • Identifying long-term and recurring (bad actor) analyzer problems and providing feasible pathways for resolutions.
  • Identifying obsolescence issues and providing possible solutions to mitigate (both short and long-term).
  • Developing, mapping out and maintaining a 10-year strategy to enhance/modernize and maintain the reliability of obsolete, modern, and proposed analyzer project solutions to maximize business profitability.
  • Maintaining, in partnership with the Process Control Domain (PCD) team, the analyzer data communication architecture and network.
  • Maintaining analyzer-related Quality System Plans (QSP) and work processes.
  • Provide overall discipline technical assurance for the area. Ensure that the area complies with all technical assurance requirements as defined by Control Systems (CEMS, Quality Process, mandatory maintenance, documentation, compliance with applicable standards / procedures).
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) participant providing guidance for Preventative Maintenance tasks and participating in RCM studies.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you –

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • B.S./M.S. Engineering degree in Chemical, Electrical or other relevant engineering branch, or a Physical Sciences degree with demonstrated leadership, knowledge and/or practical analyzer-related work experience
  • At least five (5) years related experience in the management of the lifecycle of process analyzer systems (including sample conditioning) (e.g., commissioning, operating, and maintaining).
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in the areas of analyzer Applications and Electronics
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards and analyzer design fundamentals
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills
  • Multi-faceted troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills (able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously)
  • Excellent communication skills (Oral/Written)
  • Innovative, flexible, and open to display Learner Mindset
  • Has the energy and enthusiasm with advocacy for important objectives

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience in multiple phases of the manufacturing business and technical support for Environment & Compliance on the permit to operate analytical (CEMS).
  • Experience in the areas of field support with a heavy emphasis on analyzer projects and problem-solving.
  • Experience with utilizing data analytics to drive results and developing/influencing visualization tools
  • Process Control applications, and engineering documentation (P&IDs, Control narratives, loop wiring diagrams etc.) and troubleshooting methodology
