This position is eligible for remote work at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change. Ideally, the selected canidate will live near or being willing to relocate to Waterloo, IA.
Your Responsibilities
John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) is the business segment of John Deere whose purpose is to be the world leader in designing, delivering, and supporting advanced off-highway engines and drivetrain components. As a Staff Engineer, Emission Regulations for JDPS located in Waterloo, IA you will:
Lead external company activities to monitor and influence major new engine emission regulation development (e.g., CARB Tier 5, EU Stage VI, China NR5), representing the company directly to global regulators (e.g., US EPA, CARB, EU Commission, China MEE) and industry associations (e.g., EMA, EUROMOT), and potentially leading industry association regulatory committees.- Lead internal company activities to develop strategy and technical concepts for influencing major new engine emission regulations, including analysis of impacts across new product development, delivery, and support phases.
- Lead internal communications on major new emission regulation updates as strategic inputs to product portfolio planning and new technology development projects.
- Engage and support various business functions (e.g., Engine Engineering, Factory Operations, Marketing and Sales, Customer Support) on initial implementation of major new regulation requirements, including development and delivery of division/enterprise training.

What Skills You Need
4 or more years of work experience with regulations or industry standards relating to engines, vehicles, or manufacturing, including interpreting regulatory language and managing compliance- 6 or more years of work experience with an engine, automotive, or off-road machinery engineering function
- 3 or more years of experience providing clear written and verbal communications to external audiences
- 2 or more years of experience planning, coordinating, and supervising team or project activities
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What Makes You Stand Out
Experience with heavy-duty vehicle or off-road engine emission regulations- Expertise in governmental rulemaking or legislative processes
- Direct knowledge of engine emissions certification and compliance processes
- Experience with engine, heavy-duty vehicle, off-road machinery, or automotive industry associations such as EMA, EUROMOT, AEM, or Alliance of Automotive Innovation
- Technical knowledge relating to engine or vehicle emission control technologies
- Knowledge of agricultural and construction vehicle product lines
- Well-versed with global competitive landscape of the engine and off-road machinery industry
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical/scientific discipline OR 8 or more years of engine, automotive, or off-road machinery engineering-related experience
