Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities. We are a company with a dedicated focus on responsiveness, quality, and customer support, we are working hard to match the growing global and domestic demand for these advanced materials.


Job Purpose

Works under the direction of the Engineering/R&D and Process Engineer(s), supports process engineering improvement goals and objectives. This includes supporting capability improvement, yield improvement and waste reduction initiatives. Analyzes data. Conducts experiments. Typically works in small teams including department and cross-functional teams but may work independently based upon the assignment or need. Will support MCCFC off-site/affiliated plants including our Carbon Material Division (Poway).

Principal Accountabilities
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment for all employees.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with employees through open communication, visibility, and involvement to promote a positive working environment that maximizes safety, employee engagement, productivity, and throughput.
  • Works closely with maintenance, technical, and production management to improve safety and minimize downtime due to unscheduled stoppages.
  • Analyzes operating procedures and equipment and machinery functions to reduce processing time and cost. Employs and/or learns to employ effective problem-solving techniques, cause/effect theories (FMEA), root cause analysis, and DOE methods as needed.
  • Analyzes reoccurring and non-reoccurring manufacturing problems and develops feasible solutions (process improvement plans, etc.) with respect to quality, cost, time, and safety.
  • Determine most effective arrangement of production equipment/operations exercising judgment to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation, operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards.
  • Able to work flexibly in order to achieve continuous improvement in a commercial environment, yet capable of supporting the change/revision controls required by specific customers.
  • Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure
  • Develops and/or reviews BOM and process control cards (PCCs) as needed. Review’s routers, BOM, and WOs for process capabilities.
  • Strives to incorporate a high degree of safety into all aspects of machine improvement and process modification. This is achieved through careful hazard analysis and by employing creative solutions. Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Interacts effectively with co-workers, production workers, vendors, and management team
  • Acts as a resource to support all manufacturing operations, supervisors, and operators.
  • Writes reports, documents results, and develops files using good technical report writing skills.
  • Obtain competitive quotes for upgrades requiring in the company. Does not have the authorization to commit company to any expenditure. All requests for expenditure must be approved in writing by a member of management team.
  • Supervise construction and installation of new equipment, prepare SOP and make sure permit condition requirement of local, state, federal, fire department, air quality management district (AQMD) etc. are maintained
  • Perform job duties and obtain training in accordance with our Quality Management System (AS9100).
  • Perform job duties and obtain training in accordance with AS9100 procedures.
  • Audit operations for AS9100 compliance as scheduled.
  • Visits customers for specific and strategic product development project applications. Supports optimization of meeting customer product performance and quality requirements.
  • Exhibits exemplary conduct at all times in dealing with other MCCFC CMD employees including any outside contacts. Contributes to the establishment and attainment of a positive, safe, and team-oriented environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned, and be expected to perform acceptable standards, any relevant related duties as required by management.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • A four-year college degree in Chemistry, Mechanical or Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience in the Composites industry; related internships and co-ops will be considered.
  • Multi-lingual skills in Japanese and/or Spanish are a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, AutoCAD and other engineering techniques, required.
Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $70,200- $105,400. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
