Position Summary
We are seeking an Instructor to lead an IT Support course online, to one cohort of our Career Jumpstart Fellowship program. Reporting to the Director of Technology Programs, the Instructor will also work closely with the Director of Instructional Design, Director of Student Success, and Student Success Coaches to ensure that students are mastering and applying personal and professional competencies toward completing the Fellowship and securing employment.
About you: You are a passionate educator and IT Professional who has a track record of developing and teaching online courses that maximize engagement, learning, and development for first-generation, low-income, first-time-in-college students, and similar underrepresented student groups.
Position Type
This is a remote hourly position, approximately 28 hours per week from June-October 2023.
Responsibilities:
Course Preparation:
- Review existing course materials (syllabus, lecture notes, assessments) and student outcomes data from prior iterations of the course
- Participate in professional development to align on college's mission and values, course design principles, online teaching, and technology-enhanced instruction
Teaching:
- Prepare for (e.g., complete online pre-work, modify lesson plans, prepare materials) and facilitate synchronous course meetings (online classes) at assigned times
- Grade students' assessments and assignments within one week of their due date and ensure that all scores and comments are recorded in the learning management system
- Recommend improvements to (and modify—following curriculum leadership team guidance) existing course materials as necessary to realize continuous improvements to student outcomes
- Respond to emails from students and colleagues within one business day
- If applicable, depending on class size: Manage a teaching assistant / student success coach to collaboratively execute the above duties
Continuous Improvement:
- Debrief instructional strengths and growth areas from session observations as well as participate in periodic course assessment and evaluation exercises
- Participate in faculty learning communities where instructors teaching sections of the same course come together to improve the curriculum, enhance program content, evaluate student learning outcomes, and learn new effective and engaging instructional techniques

Foremost, you must share the OC team's values and commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal instruction grounded in culturally responsive teaching. Additionally, for this position, we're looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in IT
- CompTIA A+ certification (1001 and 1002 preferred) and familiarity with all areas of coursework covered in the Google IT Support Professional Certificate
- Experience in developing and/or teaching courses for young adults in a virtual, online environment
- Experience teaching diverse student populations (e.g., first-generation, low-income, English language learners, students with special needs, students of color, adult students) in diverse settings (e.g., rural or urban schools, out-of-school programs)
- Experience supporting young adults with college persistence and/or career exploration
- Strong interpersonal skills including clear and effective communication skills, intercultural competence, and the ability to foster teamwork and collaborative relationships
- Strong intrapersonal skills including conscientiousness, professionalism, growth mindset, and the ability to problem solve, learn quickly, adapt flexibly, and work with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency using online technologies and demonstrated experience communicating complex processes and information virtually both one-on-one and in facilitating affirming online group conversations and communities
- Expertise at making content accessible, relevant, and actionable

Compensation
The compensation for this position is $30 per hour. Opportunity College is incubating as a program of Array Education, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Note: we are a new program and not yet an accredited institution of higher education. The employee will be eligible for all benefits available to employees of Array Education.
