Job Description
Position Summary
This position is a member of the Building & Safety Department and provides information to the public regarding development services programs as assigned including building, engineering, code enforcement, and planning; processes and approves plans and permit applications; and maintains permit records and handouts.
Examples of Essential and General Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include,
but are not limited to, the following:
Provide information to the general public, contractors, engineers and developers regarding development services programs and processes for building, engineering, planning, and City ordinances, codes and regulations as required.- Receive, process, and review applications for a variety of permits; approve and issue permits as necessary; calculate and collect all fees.
- Receive plan check submittals; route plans to appropriate department for checking; receive plans back from examiner and calculate fees.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records and files on permit applications, plan submittals, and approvals; input data into a computer system; process reports as needed.
- Attend and participate in various meetings; take and prepare minutes and distribute information to appropriate departments.
- Assist in clarifying plan submittals; participate in field visits with appropriate staff as required.
- Assist Development Services staff with City projects and programs.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum and Preferred Requirements

Experience
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible development services or construction work involving general public contact is required.
- Previous experience working in a public agency development services department, such as engineering, building, or planning is preferred.
- Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
Training
- High School Diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Specialized training in public works, engineering, building trades, or code enforcement is preferred.
Special Requirements
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record (a driving record may be deemed unsatisfactory for any of the following reasons: three or more moving violations or reportable accident within the last three years; conviction of driving under the influence within the last five years) is required.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background investigation and a physical.
