MITRE’s Software Engineering Innovation Center is one of the government’s largest R&D resources dedicated entirely to software engineering; delivering a comprehensive spectrum of capabilities, spanning the full development lifecycle from prototyping (concept and user-centered design), through software architecture & modeling, agile development, testing and deployment, to software assessments (verification & validation). Roles and Responsibilities:

We are looking for creative Software Engineers who have the passion and curiosity to learn and leverage emerging technologies to help our nation solve its most critical challenges within one or more of the following domains:


  • Agile Development
  • Full-Stack Development
  • Cloud Engineering
  • Cyber Security
  • DevSecOps
  • Embedded Systems and Internet of Things
  • Immersive Virtual Reality
  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Model-Based Engineering
    • Data Analysis and Visualization
    • Human-Systems Integration and User-Centered Design

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining a DoD Secret clearance. Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or other related STEM major
  • 1-3 years of demonstrated software development experience
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented experience with "Hands-on" skills in at least one object-oriented, procedural, functional, or declarative programming language (e.g., Java, C/C++/Objective-C/C#, Python, Go, NodeJS, JavaScript, Ruby, HTML5, MySQL, MongoDB, Git)
  • Experience collaborating in a distributed team environment to develop and deliver both prototype and production software that spans the full tech stack, from the back-end to the front-end
  • Experience across the entire software lifecycle, from design/architecture to agile development, testing, continuous integration, deployment (CI/CD), and support
  • Experience working with Agile practices and frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban). Ability to identify process improvements, act as an Agile Change Agent, and leverage Agile metrics for program and product improvement
  • Experience with safety critical systems and how to apply Agile practices for real time improvement
  • Knowledge of web apps and frameworks, services, or standards across the full stack (i.e., HTML/CSS, SQL/NoSQL databases, APIs, JSON, HTTP, async, REST, React, Django, etc.)
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment toolchains and commercial cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to automate the software development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with operational Cyber concepts and objectives
  • Usage of popular development tools and platforms like Github/Gitlab, Jira, Bitbucket, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Knowledge of database technologies, including relational or NoSQL
  • Understanding of DevSecOps concepts (containerization and container orchestration) and how to apply them
  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems (i.e., Windows, Linux, Mac)
  • Interest in or contributions to open-source projects
  • An entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$89,000 - $111,500 - $134,000 Annual
