We're searching for an NPI Engineer, mechanical focus. The NPI Engineer, mechanical focus candidate will be responsible for shepherding hardware from concept review to low-volume manufacturing. They guide design engineers in selecting appropriate manufacturing processes and are on the floor through each build to deliver finished vehicle integrations, electronic sensors and modules, and computers.
In this role, you will
- Develop manufacturing and service requirements for components
- Develop manufacturing process plans and design process qualification
- Provide internal DFM for optimization of component and manufacturer selection
- Support development of hardware standards and design guidelines
- Provide manufacturing tolerance feedback to mechanical and electrical designers
- Support DFM interactions with suppliers
- Schedule/ communicate hardware data release dates based on both development process and manufacturing lead time constraints
- Provide manufacturing method and inspection method feedback via drawing markup to design engineers
- Check and release hardware data packages for transfer to internal resources and contract manufacturers
- Create any necessary control plans, critical to quality requirements, or work instructions for manufacturing
- Create and include in the data package any necessary logistics and quality requirements
- Manage and release a manufacturing BOM for internal resources and contract manufacturer use
- Manage and own contract manufacturing process bring up through hand off to supply team
- Interact with internal supplier quality and fleet operations as a sustaining engineering point of contact
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering role with experience working in low to high volume production environments
- Bonus points for experience in AV, robotics, or the automotive industry
- Experience with launching hardware products and the product life cycle, and selecting the right-sized process based on the needs on the program
- Experience with working with supply chain and vendors, bonus points for experience in design engineering and new product introduction
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with 3D CAD and PDM/PLM, preferably Catia/Solidworks and Enovia/EPDM
- Experience with ERP tools such as Plex
The base salary range for this position is $141,000 - $211,000 per year. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
