What You'll Do
Samsung SOC Lab in San Diego is searching for wireless modem systems engineers with solid background in communications system, DSP and estimation theory.
Candidate will join a team conducting research on 5G mmWave and working on the system design, implementation, and verification of a modem and RFIC chips for 5G mmWave system.
This job provides a great opportunity to not only algorithm design but also learning performance verification at the RFIC or phone platform level in the lab. Systems engineers in our team are innovative, driven, detail-oriented and have been responsible for design and development of Samsung modem chipsets that have been commercialized in millions of smart devices including Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Diego, CA office 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

- Research new wireless communication system design for 5G covering baseband and RF domains.
- Understand the latest 3GPP wireless communication standards and systems.
- Develop signal processing algorithms for 5G and other wireless communication systems.
- Develop MATLAB and C/C++ simulators and study the system performance.
- Design the whole modem baseband architecture for 5G standards.
- Design fixed-point C/C++ model for newly developed algorithm.
- Evaluate performance in chip or platform level using test equipment in lab.
- Produce key intellectual property for 5G.
- Work closely with hardware and software engineers to develop an implementation that meets system requirements.
What You Bring
- Bachelors with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 3+ years or PhD with 0 years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in communication theory, information theory, digital signal processing, estimation theory, random processes.
- C/C++, Python, and MATLAB coding skills.
- Experience in modem design of cellular systems and other advanced wireless systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and presentation skills.
- You're inclusive, adapting your style to the situation and diverse global norms of our people.
