T-Mobile has been extremely successful in the marketplace, in part because of our ability to launch new features and drive the market (several years of Un-Carrier initiatives). One cost of this velocity is the accumulation of a certain amount of technical debt, specifically in the security space.
This role is part of a new team that will focus on this security tech debt, improve the overall security posture of our key tools that drive the business, innovate new ways to stay safe over time, and probe our systems for weaknesses. As a part of this team, you will partner closely with some of the best teammates in InfoSec inside the most valuable telecommunication company in the world.
The Software Engineer will work with a team of other software developers, solution architects, Product Managers and partners to design, implement, and deploy software which meet security requirements, can scale easily, removes the limitations of traditional networking solutions, and supports deployment in highly available environments. The engineer will participate in architecture and design of various software components passionate about creating applications that leverage technologies such as virtualization, micro services, SDN, NFV, serverless, AWS and Big Data platforms and technologies.
What you'll do in your role.
- Technical System Expertise: Understands system protocols, how systems operate and data flows. Aware of current technology benefits. Encouraged to independently develop a full software stack. Understands the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete software and automation work. Independent study of current technology is encouraged. Work well with system engineers to define system requirement and/or vital requirements for automation.
- Technical Engineering Services: Supports engineering projects by developing software solutions; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations. Encouraged to supervise associate engineers on occasion.
- Innovation: Presents new insights which improve an existing system/process/service. Express new points of view based on independent study of the industry. Review current company processes to highlight questions that may drive process refinement.
- Technical Writing: Maintains knowledge of existing technology documents. Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Gives clear documentation for new code and systems used. Documenting systems designs, presentations, and business requirements for consumption at the engineer level.
- Technical Leadership: Collaborates with technical teams and applies system expertise to deliver technical solutions. Continuously learns new technologies.
- Technology Strategy: Understands current technology that supports business goals.
- Software Development: Develop, test, and deploy custom software and applications; Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining, and improving existing software that support out self-service on-demand infrastructure tools.
- Operational support: Supports the Self-Service Infrastructure platforms and build pipelines via automation, development, performance management, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent education and work experience required.
Work Experience:
Required
- 2-4 years Technical engineering experience.
Preferred
- Experience with on-premises private cloud solutions such as VMware, OpenStack, or other like solutions.
- Understanding of at least one of the following scripting languages: JavaScript, PowerShell, Puppet, Bash, Ansible
- Java development experience
- Experience with deploying and managing micro-services using container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Experience in REST API development and third-party integrations
- Experience with front-end web development technologies (HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, etc)
- Sharp analytical skills to understand existing applications and come up with innovative solutions.

Colorado Pay Range: $109,300- $147,900. The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range.
At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance, while Retail and Business Sales roles are eligible for monthly or quarterly sales incentives.
