Communications & Marketing
UCF Communications develops and executes a media relations strategy focused on achieving the university's goals, desired outcomes and established metrics. The high-performing team collaborates across Communications & Marketing, throughout the university and with UCF's partners to deliver aligned results and strengthen the university's reputation.
The Opportunity:
The Web Applications Developer II is an enterprise position supporting the University through the Communications and Marketing team with its web development and design needs, including but not limited to, planning, designing, developing, documenting, testing and maintaining the university's main website (www.ucf.edu), web applications, digital and all-campus communications, and student recruitment initiatives.
Responsibilities:

Website development and management for UCF.edu and other top-level university web communications projects.

Participate and offer expert advice and best practice in the planning, designing, developing, documenting, testing, and maintaining of websites, web applications, information architecture and infrastructure.

Collaborates with UCF departments to determine functionality, specifications, and appearance of websites and web applications
-
Oversee various aspects of primary web properties including but not limited to code, content organization, data structure, graphics and design.

Analyze the feasibility and efficacy of website and web campaigns using tracking metrics and data. Track, report, and analyze KPIs and other web-based data.

Ensure the usability and accessibility (508 compliance and WCAG standards) of websites and other communications (pdfs, videos, etc.) delivered on the internet and on mobile devices.

Utilize and be current in industry-accepted standards, practices, and tools to develop web and digital communications.

Be a leader in visual front-end design and coding using Photoshop, illustrator, CSS (including bootstrap and other frameworks), html5, and JavaScript programming for websites.

Ensure consistent design and branding across all university web properties.

Design and optimize user experience and produce rich, usable, accessible web content.

Manage web-based projects by conducting design reviews, usability testing, code reviews, and coordinating project objectives with stakeholders.
Skills Include:

JavaScript / JQuery – Intermediate

Angular / React – Basic

Photoshop / Sketch – Basic

WordPress – Experience with development, templates, and plugins.

Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console experience is a plus.

Familiar with agile software design and planning, development, deployment, and testing.

Competent in data structure and analysis

Strengths in both building and consuming RESTful APIs

Interface design w/ Strong UX capabilities/instinct
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Full-stack development experience is needed.

Front-end development with HTML5/CSS (including bootstrap and other frameworks)
-
Experience with React or Angular
-
Expertise in JavaScript/jQuery
-
Experience with design and development of WordPress Plug-ins and Templates
-
Knowledge of data automation with Python and used to working with APIs.

Hands-on SEO data and reporting experience.

Compliance/Accessibility background is essential

Familiar with Continuous integration and agile development practices

3. Uses full-stack approach that factors performance into builds. Considers the impact of new designs/ideas on the site’s performance/SEO (page speed, UX, bounce rate, structure, responsiveness, etc.). Can recognize, provide and implement optimization recommendations.
4. Takes a data-driven approach, while also using real-world experience and feedback to make decisions. Thinks about the user journey, acquisition, UI/UX, architecture, etc. when developing solutions.
