Job Summary

The Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) is seeking an aerospace engineer with a strong background in aircraft propulsion system modeling, secondary power subsystem modeling, mission analysis, and multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization to support applied research in the field of aeronautics.

Responsibilities

Degree Required: Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering
Fields/Discipline: Propulsion System Architect and Subsystem Integration

As part of his or her responsibilities, the applicant is expected to conduct, lead, and publish research involving analysis of advanced propulsion system architectures and
electrified subsystem architectures. Three years of experience in modeling and simulation of advanced propulsion concepts (such as the hybrid electric propulsion
systems) and a variety of subsystems (such as the actuation system and the thermal management system) is desired. The applicant must be familiar with object-oriented design using MATLAB and NPSS to conduct relevant research. In addition, at least two years of experience in overall aircraft design is required. Specific aircraft design knowledge should include, but not limited to, constraint analysis and mission analysis. Experience utilizing statistic techniques (such as machine learning and surrogate modeling) and software (such as JMP) to perform trade studies, design space exploration, and multi-objective optimization is also preferred. The applicant will be responsible for managing and coordinating projects. This includes coordinating all communication with sponsors, meeting deadlines and schedule milestones, writing proposals, and supervising integrated teams composed of graduate/undergraduate students and professionals. Hence, excellent written and oral communication skills are a requirement. Furthermore, the applicant is also expected to engage in exploring collaboration opportunities with government agencies, academia and industry.
