Job Description
As an electric aviation startup, we believe in making the world a better, cleaner, and more connected place. We believe in the potential of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, to lead us to our vision. We are designing our next generation eVTOL, and seeking self-driven, passionate, and experienced individuals to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Drive multi-disciplinary trade studies to arrive at design solutions
- Build aircraft sub-system models for the MDO framework
- Build surrogate models using higher fidelity tools to predict performance and empty mass fraction of eVTOL's
- Build mission performance models in the MDO framework
- Analyze failure situations in the MDO framework
- Support design and analysis activities to verify that business and regulatory requirements will be met with high confidence during conceptual, and preliminary design phases
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. PhD preferred
- 5+ years of experience designing eVTOL, and/or rotorcraft or aircraft up through flight testing of full-scale prototypes
- Understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics and performance
- Background with MDO methods applied to aircraft sizing and design
- Background in structural design and demonstrated ability to create representative mass models for sizing
- Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB scripting
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with AVL, XROTOR, XFOIL
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems
- Familiarity with electric propulsion systems
- Experience with aircraft operating and production cost modeling
- Experience with gradient-based and gradient-free optimization techniques
