Description

The intent of this entry level engineering position is to learn and assist: to gain an understanding of Caterpillar’s business, products, systems, and procedures; to learn and develop skills which result from the practical application of basic engineering knowledge; and to provide assistance to a project team in the work group. As an Engineer with the Energy & Transportation Power Systems team, you will engage in the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar Electronic Systems and Controls supporting the Electric Power Generation industry. Your specific assignment in the team may involve a number of areas depending on your skills and interests – a few to consider include developing system designs and architecture, defining strategies and controls, integrating strategies into a working system to meet program needs, software development in C/C++ and/or Matlab Simulink models, software verification, system validation, data analysis, issue root cause determination and resolution, etc.

Job Duties

Develop and validate control system strategies and functionality

Collaborate with internal customers and team members to develop software specifications

Test and verify components, system, and strategy operation on benches, at test sites, and in applications

Perform system validation of solutions and strategies to insure 100% effectiveness

Diagnostic and Service Test system design

Robust integration to ensure superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability

FMEA engagement and proactive risk mitigation

NPI issue management

Field data and diagnostic monitoring

Component selection from suppliers

Controller harnessing architecture and pin out definition

Collaborate with internal customers and team members to develop software specifications

Develop Software Requirements Specification documentation

Contribute to the design of new or changed feature requirements to assure they appropriately fit within existing software architecture

Design, optimize, and implement software strategies using C and/or Matlab Simulink

Work with development team and program leads to integrate software into platform

Unit test and verify software strategies in bench and lab environments

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum

Top Candidates will also have

Some relevant entry level work experience and/or engineering intern experience

Emphasis on initiative and strong technical insight

Experience in software development – C/C++, Matlab/Simulink

Experience/ familiarity with Engine and/or Genset applications

Skilled in the use of PC tools such as MSOffice, Visio

Commitment to quality and customer satisfaction

Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

Strong analytical skills

Desire to work in a fast paced, team environment

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

United States domestic relocation is available for this position.

10% travel is required for this role
