SYSTEMS AND IT ADMINISTRATOR, Biology, to join the department’s research computing team, supporting projects and staff spread across the departments of Biology, Biological Engineering, and the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. Will participate in monitoring, maintaining, and continuously improving IT infrastructure; and provide general computing support to the Department of Biology’s faculty and research and administrative staff. This will include both maintaining a high-performance computing environment as well as the integration of that environment with scientific equipment based on Mac and Windows operating systems; and utilizing bash scripting, Python, R, and Java programming languages. As part of more general computing support, may assist with purchasing, configuring, deploying, and supporting hardware and software; troubleshoot complex technical issues; serve as a liaison to MIT IST&T for network, email, server, etc., services; provide occasional A/V support (e.g., assisting with and consulting on set-up); and assist with other IT-related projects as needed.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline; at least two years of relevant experience; and excellent analytical, problem-solving, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work with users (faculty, staff, students, external users, etc.) with a wide range of technical skills; work independently to offer solutions to technical issues; and learn and apply new technologies as needed. PREFERRED: broad knowledge of high-performance computing environments and experience with Linux system administration and cluster computing; familiarity with databases such as MySQL, Postgres, and FileMaker; and experience with virtualization platforms, backup software, system monitoring software, content management systems, information security, and container technologies.
