Our location in Irving, Texas currently has an exciting, highly visible, full-time opportunity for a Sr. Mechanical Support Engineer/CAD, PLM Administrator.

  • PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an entry-level position; it requires at least 6 (six) years of industry-based, CAD work experience (Please see Required Experience section below).

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Sr. Mechanical Support Engineer/CAD, PLM Administrator. supports ongoing efforts to carry out and improve our Mechanical CAD/CAE Tools and Teamcenter PLM System. In this role you will improve engineering capability and efficiency through continuous improvements to our tools and process throughout all Abbott Core Diagnostics (CoreDx) engineering locations. This position proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement, develops future plans for upgrades, spots current and future industry trends and system needs.

Primary Function:

The Sr. Mechanical Support Engineer/CAD, PLM Administrator. primary functions include but not limited to: Management of Mechanical Design Tools, troubleshooting of Mechanical Tools issues, and support tools systems across Abbott Core Diagnostics global engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and supporting the internal tools and systems environment that supports a forward-thinking product development group using PLM and other software tools for CAD data and engineering documentation management.
  • Work with major software vendors to manage corporate account for best in class support strategies, license deployments from a regional and global perspective, user training and negotiations of annual support contracts.
  • Work as part of a team to share skill sets, lessons, and technical knowledge to maintain a well-rounded CAD/PLM team, as well as a contributor to technical support documentation.
  • Trains and mentors Associate Engineers, Engineers and Designers in Engineering Design Tools and Processes including but not limited to 3D Modeling, Tooling, Tolerance Analysis and FEA Simulations.
  • Supports CAD/PLMr system user issues for all Abbott CoreDx design teams including occasional off-hours support of our international teams.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to implement customized CAD/Teamcenter interface workflows to support engineering data management solutions and process improvements.
  • Prepares requirements and provide technical expertise in evaluating, integrating, and deploying CAD/Teamcenter system solutions.
  • Works in the creation of schedules related to upgrades of managed CAD/CAE tool upgrades and process improvements.
  • Coordinates training and responsible for the development of technical documentation relative to new engineering systems and tools within Abbott CoreDx.
  • Perform and or lead investigations and troubleshooting of moderately complex/complex issues to determine root cause.
  • Logically and efficiently analyze, test, and diagnose CAD/PLM systems to isolate problems and report if necessary.
  • Strive to become an expert in the tools used by our Engineering teams. Take ownership of process improvements and drive to successful implementation.
  • Monitor competitive environment and be prepared to respond to changes in the CAD/PLM market.
  • Develop best practices, define standards for data management including system and process documentation.
  • Responsible for utilizing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies.
  • Evaluates engineering technical risks and identifies alternatives, makes recommendations and takes appropriate actions.
  • Maintain current engineering technical skills and functional area expertise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, computer science or equivalent engineering or scientific discipline. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of general engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of regulations for medical device development, (ISO15197, ISO13485, FDA).
  • Strong technical experience in mechanical engineering with excellent written and verbal communication skills is essential.
  • Experience in all of the following: Working in a development environment with an emphasis on new medical device development; Writing product requirements and design specifications; Support equipment/facility/process commissioning and validation desired; Design for manufacture of low-cost, high-volume disposable products; Familiarity with GxP, ISO, and medical device regulations.

Preferred / Optional Education, Experience, etc.:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following majors: Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Command Line Scripting/Programming (Powershell, CMD, BAT, VBScript, Java, other Object-Oriented language).
  • CAD/CAE Modeling and R&D tools (SolidWorks, CETOL, DFMA, Goldfire, Rescale Cloud Computing, Ansys, STAR-CCM+), PLM (Teamcenter, SWIM)
  • Above work experience from highly regulated industry or other types of companies/industries: Consumer Products, Aerospace, Automotive, Military Hardware, Medical Devices, Electro-Mechanical Design or Packaging.
