Job Summary

The Rotational Engineer I – Engineering position is an entry level developmental engineering position for establishing a career progression in process, automation/machine and manufacturing engineering through the completion of a 3-year guided program consisting of sequential 1-year assignments in Process Engineering, Automation & Equipment Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering under the mentorship of senior engineering leaders in each function. Within each assignment, the Rotational Engineer I – Engineering position will support on-going engineering activities by acquiring foundational engineering development skills necessary for the introduction and operation of new processes and equipment for the manufacture of cardiovascular interventional systems products. Key activities may include process design, specification and fabrication of equipment, process validation, process transfer into manufacturing, and continuous improvement and support of full scale production lines. At the successful completion of the 3-year rotational assignment, eligibility for promotion to the Engineer II will be attained.

Job Details/Responsibilities

Process Engineering Assignment:

  • Participate in new process development and production process transfer activities as part of a project team.
  • Support the design and development of production equipment; to include development of equipment concepts, engineering analysis; conduct of Design of Experiments (DOE), 3-D modeling and analysis; preparation of engineering drawings, equipment, and process control documents.
  • Support the development and build of production processes for and the fabrication of new product prototypes and design verification units.
  • Research and identify vendors, order, and receive components and equipment needed for process development activities.
  • Install production/process equipment and support the conduct of Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), pre-Process Qualification (PQ), and formal PQ validation activities and the documentation of their results.
  • Prepare presentations and present work to project team personnel and senior management.

Automation & Machine Engineering Assignment:

  • Work with internal customers to collect user and project requirements for new machine and automation projects as well as upgrades to existing equipment.
  • Support the design and evaluation of machinery prototypes using a combination of internal and external resources to demonstrate compliance with requirements and process robustness.
  • Provide support in cost and capacity modeling as well as resource planning estimates for project assignments.
  • Provide technical support to resolve automation and machinery issues. This includes impact on product fit, form, function, and performance.
  • Provide engineering support to the design, fabrication, development, installation, validation and qualification of equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Prepare presentations and present work to project team personnel and senior management.

Manufacturing Engineering Assignment:

  • Support on-going production on the manufacturing floor.
  • Work with Quality Engineering and Production personnel in the conduct of root cause analyses of process non-conformances and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Plan and implement specified projects centered on various changes that affect current product and/or processes.
  • Provide engineering support to the design, fabrication, development, installation, validation and qualification of equipment and/or processes.
  • Research and implement cost reduction projects.
  • Prepare presentations and present work to project team personnel and senior management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)


Analytical and problem-solving skills.
General knowledge of 2-D drafting and 3-D modeling and analysis.
Good communication skills; both verbal and written.
Basic computer knowledge; use of MS Office Suite.

Qualifications/ Background Experiences

Entry level position
Graduating university or college candidate.
Bachelor level or higher degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
