This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.


This position may be located in Waterloo, IA, Dubuque, IA, Des Moines, IA or Moline, IL per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.


Your Responsibilities


As the Staff Engineer, Engine Oils, for the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) located in Waterloo, IA, Dubuque IA, Des Moines, IA or Moline IL, you will be the expert on engine oil and co-expert on lubrication systems for the Enterprise. You will work across the Enterprise with engineering, supply management and marketing staffs. Your primary responsibility will be engine oils, but also provide backup support for engine coolants, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and fuels.

What Skills You Need


  • Participation in an API engine oil category development
  • Strong engine knowledge, both compression-ignition and spark-ignition.
  • Knowledge of engine lubrication systems and familiarity with engine cooling systems.
  • Eight (8) or more years’ experience with industry test development and standards-setting groups for engine oils.
  • Five (5) or more years of background in technical service/customer support.
  • Five (5) or more years of background in engine testing.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience supporting marketing.
  • Project and budget management as well as excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability regarding product innovation and technical creativity.
  • Good proficiency in computer software platforms for routine usage.


What Makes You Stand Out


  • Ability to communicate to both non-technical and technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask.
  • Previous experience supporting (Parts) Marketing Expositions.
  • Knowledge of chemistry as applied to lubricants (elemental function within an additive package)
  • Experience in engine oil analysis


Education


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • An advanced degree is a plus
  • Ten years or more experience in compression ignition engines.
