About UsThe Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department in Berkeley County, SC. Our primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek. We provide full time coverage with both part-time and volunteer staff. We protect a district of over 600 residences, 5 shopping centers, 5 schools, 13 apartment complexes, 9 industrial facilities, and a population of over 18,000. We staff a fleet of 2 Engines, 1 Squad/Rescue, 1 Tower Ladder, 2 Staff Vehicles, and 3 Chief Officer vehicles housed in 2 stations. Our Headquarters Station is located at 907 Red Bank Rd and our Mount Holly Station located at 156 Old Mount Holly Rd.
Job Position DescriptionThe position of Volunteer IT Support is an entry level position and applies to volunteer personnel wanting to provide IT support to a Volunteer Fire Department. The personnel would be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software. This position would respond to queries, isolate problems, determine solutions, document, and implement fixes. A significant portion of these support requests can be handled remotely via phone and remote terminals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a first point of contact for employees seeking technical assistance over the phone, via email, or web.
- Perform hands on and remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and asking pertinent questions.
- Determining the best solution based on the issue and details provided by customers.
- Walk the employee through the problem-solving process.
- Direct unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.
- Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
- Record events and problems and their resolution.
- Follow-up and update status and information.
- Pass on any feedback or suggestions by employees to the appropriate internal team.
- Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.
- Provide account administration roles for various web based systems to include user management and password resets

- Successful Background Check
- Bonus Experience: Microsoft experience including: Office 365 (especially SharePoint, Teams, and collaboration tools), Windows 10, and working within an Active Directory Domain.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve workstation technical issues.
- Proficiency in English and excellent communication skills.
- Customer-oriented and cool-tempered.
- Ability to occasionally lift 35 pounds to 4-5 feet in height.
