PSE's Ops Training, Procedures & Quality team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Senior Engineer, Electric Standards Team position!

Job Description

Variety! The standards team is engaged with a variety of scopes, projects, and field solutions through daily questions end emergency events. Standards is involved in nearly everything gas and electric related, at some capacity. You will gain breadth of knowledge and participate in events internal and external to PSE.


Provides professional engineering service and support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of PSE facilities and assets. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Reviews design and documentation to ensure compliance with PSE expectations. Interprets and applies existing guidelines and engineering principles, practices, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity, with many interrelated elements requiring considerations not previously encountered. Supports the continued development of PSE’s engineering workforce by sharing knowledge with others. Supports emergency response operations when needed.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.


This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Researching elements such as safety, cost, maintenance, regulatory compliance, etc. to determine the best
    balance for our stakeholders to develop best practices for PSE.
  • Maintaining standardized commodities and procedures to ensure that the system is familiar to operations
    staff across the service territory. This makes for safer operations and ease when building and repairing.
  • Researching new governmental regulations and ensuring that our materials and practices comply with new
    developments.
  • Updating and editing parts lists to incorporate advances in technology and market availability.
  • Within PSE
    • Creating and revising Standards documents, (e.g., construction manuals, operating standards, field
      procedures).
    • Analyzing variance requests and/or suggesting the best solution to design engineers.
    • Participate in PSE or peer team special projects.
    • Create customer handbooks and handouts.
    • Communicating with other departments to seek ideas to improve the standards.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • May lead or coordinate the work of junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians, and others who assist on specific projects. (This includes contractor/consultants.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Partner with peer teams to drive the 2030 initiatives and create language for policy and procedures.
  • Collaborate with a series of peer teams: contractor management, service provider, construction management, planning, engineering, Maps Records Technology, C&SP, Instrumentation, Automation, and etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
  • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in the utility industry.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering license.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects.

The pay range for this position is $97,600.00 - $162,500.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
