Project Engineer -Blue Engines All Levels
Job Description
As part of a passionate and accomplished team, you will work at the intersection of program management, engineering, integrated supply chain and quality organizations, improving team effectiveness and coordination, and ensuring that the right people are working together to solve problems and deliver results on time. Assignments can range from supporting engine subsystem integration activities to component development and testing coordination. In early project phases, you may define project scope and schedule to achieve overall program goals and component requirements. In later phases, you will coordinate internal and external stakeholders, manage changes and resolve unexpected problems in support of engine or subsystem builds, subsequent integration into test facilities and launch vehicles, and test activities.
In this critical role, you assume ultimate ownership and accountability for the successful execution of high-priority integration projects within a program. As the primary point of contact, you must enjoy solving communication and organizational problems, earning trust and improving the overall performance of all teams involved. We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with minimal direction and coordinate teams in the successful execution of engineering integration activities. Level of this role will be determined based on technical ability and experience. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop plans to deliver engine subsystem configurations in support of test activities
- Coordinate configuration changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders
- Assess programmatic impact of configuration change requests
- Create and manage line of balance for hardware and key equipment to support upcoming builds
- Partner with manufacturing engineering and contribute to development of detailed procedures
- Respond to unexpected changes to ensure integration activities stay on schedule, on budget, and are completed with high-quality and documented build pedigree
- Coordinate with procurement, internal and external manufacturing to ensure that hardware priorities are well understood and are actively managed to support the need dates
- Identify schedule-critical hardware, equipment, people, and facilities; resolve constraints
- Develop recovery strategies when non-conformances or other escapes are identified
- Identify risks and develop mitigation plans
- Develop schedule and budget; manage and report progress
- Develop and report key project metrics
- Lead Pre-ship reviews, ensuring hardware and software/firmware readiness prior to shipment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for Blue Origin’s mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
- B.S./B.A. degree in engineering
- 1+ years of experience in design, development, integration, or testing of Hardware in a Fast-Paced Demanding environment
- Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills
- Strong knack for troubleshooting and quick thinking to keep the project moving forward
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results
- Working knowledge of configuration management principles and practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
DESIRED
- Demonstrated some technical understanding of rocket engines and test facilities
- Experience integrating subsystems into a larger vehicle (ie. spacecraft, launch vehicle, test facility or a automotive)
- Experience implementing, customizing or improving configuration management systems in a development engineering environment
- Experience leading a small technical team
- Experience with P6 or other GANTT-style project management tools
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

Project Engineer I is $71,739 – $105,217
Project Engineer II is $82,500 – $121,000
Project Engineer III is $107,250 – $157,300
Project Engineer Sr is $130,200 – $190,960
Compensation range for on site WA applicants:
Project Engineer I is $78,261 – $114,783
Project Engineer II is $90,000 – $132,000
Project Engineer III is $117,000 – $171,600
Project Engineer Sr is $141,600 – $207,680
