Entry Level Fab Operations Engineer, Day Shift

Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research at Albany Nanotech is currently seeking an Entry Level Fab Operations Engineer. This Engineer will be a part of a team directing, planning, and managing the work in the 300mm NYCREATES Albany facilities and will collaborate with IBM engineers and partners working in a complex multi-party R&D operational environment, requiring close collaboration with NYCREATES. This engineer will spend approximately 50% of their time in the cleanroom environment supporting operations.
This position is for a day shift alternate work schedule: 12 hours day, 3 days working/4 days off; 4 days working/3 days off. Individuals must be willing to work any day shift and cross over with the night shift. The Albany facilities runs 24x7, and IBM must provide support for all shifts.
Strong communication and negotiation skills are required for this role. The successful engineer will be excited to meet new challenges and exhibit a high-level of interest in understanding and solving complex technical problems.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting activities required to meet Fab throughput, program deliverables, Fab yields, and overall fab quality and continuous improvement metrics
- Work and communicate with various teams, respecting the rules of engagement of the different partner relationships
- Involved in training activities to build a proactive, engaging team
- On a daily basis, work with cross functional teams, including IBM and partners, to establish priorities between activities and resources in order to meet Fab and program goals
- Provide suggestions for longer term solutions to Fab operations challenges, by recommending changes to protocols and procedures
- Collaborate with tool owners, facilities and equipment engineering teams to identify areas to improve tool performance, and actively support improvement plans
- Data analysis using web based reports and excel to track/report production efficiency/quality and recommend actions to drive improvements
- Create PowerPoint presentations and present updates as needed
- Maintain a safe work environment
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with basic manufacturing and production concepts
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting technical issues
- Clear and effective communication skills (written and oral)
- Must be able to work weekend shift
- Fluent in written and spoken English
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- One (1) year of experience in the semiconductor industry
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, or other technical area
- Technical knowledge and understanding of semiconductor processes and tool sets
- Working knowledge of industry and management methodologies focused on continuous improvement in manufacturing, such as SPC, SiView or Six Sigma

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
