Position Overview


The Communications Engineer coordinates strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the enterprise IP telephony voice communication solutions and associated network connectivity and component hardware. This includes participation in engineering projects for VoIP initiatives, executing technology roadmaps, configuring, and optimizing all VoIP/IP-PBX, UCaaS and CCasS phone systems and services, for both internally and Internet-based services. This role will participate in develops the long-term strategy and roadmap to ensure that our telecom systems scale to our business’ future needs.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


  • Configure, implement and support IP telephony systems with enterprise network and other Internet-based services and protocols.
  • Provide support for the implementation for new VoIP products or services, as well as the technical resources required to manage them.
  • Design and support VoIP infrastructure and its associated software, including IP-PBXs, call management systems, voice mail, and interactive voice response.
  • Collaborate with help desk to resolve trouble tickets and mitigate end-user issues with VoIP hardware and/or applications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with managed services partners/vendors providing operations and engineering support for VoIP solutions.
  • Train and mentor junior communications engineers.
  • Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for VoIP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems.
  • Collaborate with network engineers or administrators to ensure that VoIP traffic does not interfere with or hinder network data traffic.
  • Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and backup systems.
  • Where necessary, plan for management or phasing out of legacy telephony systems and other switch-based technologies.
  • Select, deploy, and utilize appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times while representing the company
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required

Qualifications


Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or 9 years’ experience in Information Technology or comparable combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in telecommunications required
    • Cisco phone systems to include Webex 2.O, Webex Calling.
    • Microsoft Teams Calling.


Work Requirements


  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Report to the office dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required
  • Ability to travel up to 15% depending on business needs


Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Demonstrated, hands on experience with VoIP solutions, ShoreTel and Cisco unified communications a strong plus.
  • Must possess organizational skills, be an independent thinker, and have the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrate a hands-on, collaborative approach; works well in a team.
  • Demonstrates strong oral / written communication and listening skills.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of WAN concepts, architecture and protocols.
  • Strong experience with Cisco routers, VOIP and QoS.
