Job Description
We believe aircraft should fly themselves. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer at Reliable Robotics you will be a part of the Avionics Hardware Team and will report to the Avionics Hardware Manager. The Avionics Hardware Team is the group responsible for designing, selecting, verifying, integrating, and certifying avionics and electrical components and systems to automate unmanned aircraft under stringent civil aviation standards. The Sr. Electrical Design Engineer role will lead end-to-end development and certification of avionics items at the board and box level for products such as airborne computers, power systems, and remote data concentrators that support our mission to automate aircraft.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer you will lead the development of electronic designs for complex avionics hardware ranging from early prototype designs through production hardware. You will architect new box-level solutions for key avionics products including compute platforms, power electronics, sensor interfaces, and databus solutions required to build our avionics system. You will be extensively engaged in circuit-card level design including schematic capture, board layout, and manufacturing documentation. You will also be responsible for defining and refining key hardware requirements and development assurance processes required for aircraft certification.

Basic Success Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of full cycle electronics hardware development experience in a professional environment
  • Extensive professional experience with designing and simulating circuit cards using tools such as Altium Designer and SPICE
  • Ability to methodically diagnose, document, and solve electronic hardware problems

Preferred Criteria

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
  • Experience with aviation development assurance standards (e.g. RTCA/DO-254 for Level A/B items or equivalent)
  • Professional experience with a full electronics product life cycle, from conceptual design to manufacturing
  • Experience implementing high speed digital interfaces (e.g. PCIe, DDR, ethernet)
  • Experience designing electronics to meet rigorous environmental standards (aerospace, military, automotive, or harsh industrial)
  • Experience with test equipment, measurement techniques, and processes for hardware verification.
