The Position
We currently have an opening in the Power & Recovery Department for a Process Engineer based out of our location in Port Townsend, Washington.

The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. Job Responsibilities
- Provides engineering expertise for process design, system optimization, quality control, commissioning & start-up, and troubleshooting of equipment and process systems.
- Works closely with the operations, maintenance, and technical team to identify and implement process modifications that improve safety, quality, productivity, costs, efficiency and reduce process variability in a team atmosphere.
- Helps develop and implement technical training programs for the operators and lab technicians.
- Continually builds relationships with operators and management to enable knowledge sharing that may uncover the best alternative to a problem.
- Performs routine testing of key process variables to ensure online process instrumentation accuracy.
- Makes appropriate recommendations to facilitate continuous improvement.
- Works with corporate resources to statistically analyze processes to develop and sustain optimal operating envelopes.
- Supports the Technical Services Manager to troubleshoot potential customer issues and provide back-up support for paper testing labs.
- Manages process changes and chemical additives/paper machine trials.
- Provide plant support in troubleshooting root cause analysis (RCA) of process and equipment issues.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and SPC (Statistical Process Control), is appreciated.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Effective people management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks.
- Able to organize and present technical data in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suites of products, (Visio, Teams, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Specific process knowledge of kraft pulp and paper facilities is preferred.
Required Experience
- Specific process knowledge of kraft pulp and paper facilities.
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
Employment Terms
- Full time, Exempt position, with overtime as required.
- Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000 DOE.
- 2 weeks paid vacation or more depending on position.
- Full-time employees receive 160 hours of sick leave upon hire then earn eight hours of sick leave per month.
- 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
