What is the role
Shell’s Powering Progress strategy includes developing renewable energy generation to unlock value and anchor integrated energy basins.
Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind (ASOW) is a set of flagship projects in renewable generation and will be one of the first offshore wind projects to be developed in the US.
Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind is a 50:50 partnership between Shell New Energies US LLC and EDF Renewables North America. The joint-venture (JV) company was formed in December 2018 to co-develop a 183,353-acre lease area on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. The newly subdivided lease areas (OCS-A-0499 and OCS-A-0549) are located within the New Jersey Wind Energy Area. In June 2021, the JV was awarded a 20-year Offshore Renewable Energy Credit (OREC) by the New Jersey Bureau of Public Utilities for Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project 1, a 1,510 MW offshore wind project located within Lease OCS-A-0499 to begin construction and reach commercial operation in the mid-to-late 2020s. Additionally, in February 2022, the JV was determined to be a provisional winner of Bight Lease 0541, adding 79,351 acres to its portfolio.

Scope of Job:
The Electrical Engineer Cables will support the development of offshore wind projects, focusing on performing and reviewing electrical designs on cable systems for offshore wind projects.
Responsibilities:
- Engineering work:
- Provide technical support for the electrical design of offshore wind, including the inter-array cabling, export cabling and onshore cable landing during pre-FEED and FEED.
- Provide design guidance and technical verification of the electrical cable package(s) design, including definition of employer’s requirements and technical specifications, guidance inputs for the design, fabrication, transportation, and installation phases.
- Ensure that the electrical cable work meets employer requirements and industry standards.
- Assist and support the procurement team in the technical aspects of negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts, technical documents, or technical and financial proposals.
- Support commercial and technical work with external vendors, including support the tendering and execution of RFI and RFP.
- Contribute to preparing schedules and cost estimates for electrical package(s).
- Interface with other technical, development, and commercial teams to ensure communication of required inputs and outputs.
- Participate in project team meetings, due diligence review and cross discipline cooperation.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
- Requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of relevant work experience, including a least a number of the following items
- Experience providing cable engineering support to offshore projects, so including submarine cable experience
- Experience providing cable engineering support to onshore transmission or distribution projects (or similar)
- Specialist cable technology experience (cable supply)
- Specialist cable transportation and installation experience (cable T&I)
- Experience is developing cable technical specifications
- Strong understanding of codes, standards, industry guidance in relation to cables
- Strong understanding of cable testing requirements / standards – including type testing, FATs and SATs
- Good knowledge of emerging cable technology, awareness of industry developments
- AC and DC cable experience
- General electrical design experience, power systems and/or electrical components
- Recommended skills within electrical design, power system analysis and offshore electrical design, HVAC and HVDC systems, power cables
- Good analytical skills
- Creative and innovative
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
- Demonstrated consistently high levels of performance in all areas of responsibility
- Highly motivated self-starter, friendly personality, good team player, and can deliver result independently regards to technical troubleshooting
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel every month to an Atlantic Shores or parent office for 3-5 days at a time.
Working Conditions:
85% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 15% of time is spent outside of the office visiting subcontractors and project stakeholders. At least monthly travel to project site(s) is required.
As required by the New York City Human Rights Law, the following is the minimum and maximum starting salary for this position: $120,000-$180,000.
