About The Position
The Performance Engineer will provide technical support for the Ameren Missouri Generation fleet. Individuals in this position will optimize the efficiency of energy center systems and minimize emissions. Extensive use of data analytics and numerous software tools including heat balance modeling and neural networks are involved in the execution of this work.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Perform optimization and tuning of combustion systems at Ameren Missouri energy centers, especially in the area of NOx control and reduction. Utilize neural networks and other advanced software programs for boiler optimization. Work with the plants to ensure compliance with NOx and other environmental limits
  • Utilize performance monitoring software and other tools to track Ameren Missouri unit heat rates and efficiencies. Prepare regular efficiency reports and review with plants on a quarterly basis. Work with the energy centers to optimize heat cycle system performance
  • Perform combustion equipment inspections and operational assessments required by environmental regulations including MATS inspections. Perform operational tuning such as YAW adjustments to optimize combustion and reduce emissions. Assist the plants in planning and prioritizing maintenance/project activities to meet regulatory requirements in a cost effective manner
  • Assist Environmental Services and Energy Center personnel with regulatory compliance in the area of thermal discharge and particulate monitoring. Maintain and update spreadsheets and other monitoring tools
  • Assist Project Engineering personnel in economic and technical evaluations of suggested equipment repairs and upgrades, especially upgrades involving boilers, combustion system components, and turbine generators
  • Work with Ameren Missouri plants and Fossil Fuels personnel in evaluation of coals being considered as fuel supplies for the plants
  • Track and report forced outages caused by boiler tube leaks. Participate in Boiler Tube Leak Reduction Team meetings
  • Perform turbine efficiency tests and reports as needed. Monitor turbine heat cycle performance and identify changes in performance and opportunities to improve performance
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical engineering preferred
Experience
  • One or more years of power generation or relevant industrial experience preferred
  • Two or more years of boiler combustion and combustion control experience preferred
  • Two or more years of thermal performance or heat cycle engineering experience preferred
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and SharePoint required
  • Good presentation skills in large group settings
  • Experience with PI, the PI Excel add-in or other process monitoring software preferred
  • Experience with boiler tube leak repair practices and R-stamp practices preferred
  • Experience with distributed controls, PLC and Java GUI interface programming preferred
  • Extensive travel between energy centers, DRC and GOB required
