Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: This associate level position will be working within the Plant Operations department assisting in the development of the software models that supports the NuScale control room simulator. This position will work in close collaboration with NuScale operators and engineers to support a range of software development tasks such as updating plant models in accordance with engineering documentation. Ideal candidate is familiar with the GSE software suite (i.e., SimExec and JTopmeret), have experience with thermal hydraulic system codes (e.g., RELAP5 and Trace), and have experience with neutronic analysis codes (e.g., Simulate 3 and MCNP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- High standard to accurately reflect information from engineering documentation into plant models.
- Supports development, testing and operation of the NuScale control room simulator and other software projects.
- Develops software in accordance with NuScale established procedures and processes to maintain configuration control.
- Documents software defects using issue tracking software.
- Provides recommended solutions when errors are encountered and seeks to identify common cause issues that affect performance of the software solution.
- Provides recommended solutions for problems using professional operational principles and company objectives.
- Works under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives. Collaborates with team members to ensure solutions are vetted and deliverables are of high quality.
- Performs hardware setup and maintenance such as installing computers/monitors and connecting cables. This may at times require limited travel to other locations outside of Corvallis at company’s expense.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, physics, engineering or other technical degree from an accredited college or university is required. ABET accredited engineering program preferred. Three or more years of demonstrable software deliverables with a focus on modeling and simulator development preferred.
- Experience: Three or more years of professional software development experience or internship is preferred. Working with thermal hydraulic and neutronic analysis software is highly desirable. Additional desired experience includes:
- Working knowledge of an integrated development environment such as Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code and a revision control system such as Git is required
- Previous experience with project management systems like Gitlab or Github
- Experience with developing software in Fortran, C++, and/or Python
- Previous experience with GSE simulation software (i.e., SimExec and JTopmeret)
- Previous experience with thermal hydraulic system codes (e.g., RELAP5 and Trace)
- Previous experience with neutronic analysis codes (e.g., Simulate 3 and MCNP)
- Demonstrable understanding of basic thermal hydraulic engineering principles
- Demonstrable understanding of basic numerical methods to solve coupled partial differential equations associated with fluid flow and heat transfer
- Demonstrable aptitude to read and interpret P&ID drawings
- Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Comp Range: $74,733 - $116,889
Note: The salaries are influenced by relatable work experience and education, equity within the department, and comp ratio in relation to the mid-point of the pay range. NuScale’s compensation information is commensurate with market data.
