What You Will Do

Are you passionate about contributing to a high functioning, inter-disciplinary team to address challenging issues of national interest? If so, we want you!

We are seeking a creative and highly motivated full-stack web application developer to join our collaborative and dynamic team! The successful candidate will have a firm grasp of modern web application development approaches, using JavaScript languages and frameworks. A solid foundation using React.js, Typescript, and Node.js is a must.

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Software Developer 2: $81,700 - $133,100

You will be joining an agile software development team supporting a broad portfolio of custom applications from design to deployment, as well ongoing production support for those applications. The software you will part of designing is in direct support of mission and programmatic operations at the laboratory, serving a crucial role in their success.

On any given day, you may be asked to:
  • Develop and maintain web applications in support of the lab's mission.
  • Demonstrate your experience designing, developing, modifying, testing, and debugging full-stack web applications using modern frameworks.
  • Utilize your strong understanding of React.js, Typescript, and Node.js, and working knowledge of related technologies.
  • Provide direct communications with various functional customers and technical peers.
  • Possess a strong desire to learn new technologies, business processes, to become an expert in their field, and the willingness and confidence to develop safety-class, mission-critical software.

Software Developer 3: $99,200 - $164,100

In addition to the expectations above, the higher-level role will expect:
  • Demonstrated technical expertise commensurate with a senior level software developer, drawing on wide-ranging experience that enables the resolution of complex requirements and issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Participation as a member of the team's mentorship of more junior members.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience building full-stack applications with JavaScript and a strong proficiency in the following frameworks and libraries or comparable; Typescript, React JS, Redux, Jest, React testing library and/or Enzyme.
  • Demonstrated experience using Gitlab or another git based distributed version control solution
  • Demonstrated experience using CI/CD pipelines to integrate and automat testing, application builds, and deployment.
  • Strong skill with Web Services leveraging NodeJS frameworks such as ExpressJS and NestJS.
  • Strong database experience with relational and non-relational databases such as MS SQL Server, Oracle DB, and MongoDB
  • Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using Agile frameworks and methodologies for software delivery

In addition to the criteria above, the higher-level role also requires:
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring of junior level developers.
  • Gathering and documenting project or feature requirements as needed.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to all stakeholders of the project, including those who do not have a technical background.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills to quickly assess complex programming applications.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Java, especially Kotlin
  • Experience with Jira, ServiceNow, or other work tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with Confluence, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Teams
  • Current DOE clearance

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos with the flexibility for the selected candidate to work from a location other than the primary location. Remote is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
