We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!

The Senior Technical Project Manager will be running technical deliverables for Disney Parks, Experiences & Products Technology and Digital. This person will be creating and supporting innovative technical solutions by leading the implementation of multiple project workstreams that roll up to a program for Walt Disney theme parks, restaurants and resorts domestically. They will apply project management principles, practices, and techniques to lead and control project timeline, scope, quality, cost and performance risks independently.

The Senior Technical Project Manager will coordinate the activities of the project team by becoming familiar with project scope and objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member. This person must be an expert in communication, with deep technical background managing technology projects, experienced in financial planning and reporting, have a high level understanding of product roadmaps, business processes and potential downstream system and business impacts from project planning and execution. They will collaborate with internal and vendor peers, executives, and line of business partners to ensure collaboration at all levels. This role will be reporting into program management.

The Senior Technical Project Manager will report to the Manager, Technology.

What You’ll Do

This role will provide the project management functions in developing and delivering technical solutions for Commerce Technology including, but not limited to, the following goals:

  • Identifies, plans, and coordinates multi-thread project planning that provides value in support of specific business strategies
  • Plans the delivery of the projects and their activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization
  • Maintains knowledge of resources and budget planning/reporting
  • Leads execution of project(s)
  • Coordinates and facilitates delivery of project objectives
  • Successfully assesses project risks and formulates mitigation plans, successfully develops and updates program budget as required, and leads the team in achieving tasks/milestones in a timely and cost-efficient manner as shown by key performance indicators

Leads and directs high-priority matrix objectives, which often require considerable resources and high levels of functional integration and interaction with program sponsors and teams

  • Conducts meetings with clearly articulated agendas to and documentation of decisions/discussions
  • Handles the change control process as needed to ensure the team operates within the scope
  • Provides input and feedback to team members ensuring clear direction and alignment
  • Identifies and evaluates risks associated with project activities and takes appropriate action to mitigate
  • Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews deliverables
  • Tracks progress and reviews scheduled activities to ensure deadlines are met
  • Assesses issues and identifies solutions to meet project goals, while keeping the overarching program and vision in mind
  • Prepares and drives project communication
  • Communicates with key collaborators to gain support for the program, and solicits input to improve the project workstreams
  • Acts as a liaison with program management and project teams to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
  • Works collaboratively with software development team leads and development teams to maintain thorough understanding of capabilities, and ensure precise communications
  • Creates presentations and reports for executive leadership, program sponsors and partners
  • Proactively communicates program status, issues & risks to program leads
  • Supports program budget
  • Ensures that the project workstreams are operating within the approved program budget
  • Monitors all budgeted expenditures for the project workstreams
  • Ensures that all financial actuals for the project(s) are up to date
  • Works with IT Project Controllers to monitor budget expenditures
  • Provides team mentoring and continues professional development
  • Mentors junior/mid levels of project managers regarding all aspects of the project life cycle and project management field
  • Continues professional development through attendance at meetings, professional seminars and conferences

Required Qualifications & Skills

Four-year college degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering

  • 4+ years of technical project management experience working with technical teams delivering enterprise class solutions
  • Technical project management expertise for global or national brand(s), working closely with technology and user experience teams
  • Hands-on experience with practices such as Agile, Lean, Kanban, Waterfall as well as extensive experience with pragmatic blending of styles to facilitate collaboration and delivery
  • Ability to understand architectural, infrastructure and technical aspects of technology projects
  • Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal) and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with Agile Application Lifecycle Management and development tools like JIRA and Confluence
  • Understanding of Agile technical practices, DevOps and testing concepts
  • Experience with budget tracking and complex cost-benefit analysis
  • Experience leading and prioritizing projects within the allocated project budgets and working seamlessly with various teams and partners in a matrix organization
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Project Management experience in SDL (Software Development Lifecycle)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Agile Certifications (CSM; ACP; CSPO; SAFe; LeSS)
  • Understand and experience with AWS Cloud based SaaS solutions
  • Experience with AWS cloud architecture
  • Experience with distributed computing
  • Experience with POS systems (both Hardware and Software)
  • Experience with networking technology
