NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs


If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range


$88,600 - $172,300

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like


We are seeking a Sensor Engineer to join the CA Weapons Engineering ND3 Development department. Your role will be to support the characterization, qualification, and implementation of sensors into multiple JTA programs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with the Systems organizations in ensuring product meets requirements through requirements mapping (RQ-R), requirements verification (RQ-V), and qualification plan (PQ)
  • Coordinate writing test plans and performing environmental and qualification tests
  • Perform analysis on collected data
  • Conduct long term sensor drift studies

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related STEM discipline plus 2 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Analysis of test results using basic statistics, trend analysis, curve fitting, and similar techniques
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with internal organizations and external production facilities and suppliers
  • Experience working on engineering design, qualification, and production
  • Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD, other National Labs, and Production facilities
  • Experience with sensors
  • Software development experience for instrumentation and measurement applications
  • Currently holding an active security clearance; DOE Q or DOD TS

The CA Weapons Engineering ND3 Development department performs technology development to enable a more agile, affordable, and assured nuclear weapons stockpile with a focus on exceptionally high confidence, quality, and reliability. Among other activities, they conduct research and development activities to enable new technology concepts, identify, mature, and qualify sensor technologies used in joint test assemblies (JTA), develop hardware and software solutions for automated testing, and design next-generation hardware for new systems, while also providing broad technical support across the nuclear deterrence mission area.

Security Clearance
