Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Web Developer. Reporting directly to Application Developer, Dean’s Office, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), designs, develops, and enhances SASN website, web applications, associated databases, application security, and other information systems and processes in support of a wide variety of vital activities for SASN and Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N).

- Works to create, maintain, and enhance SASN and RU-N academic and administrative web applications
- Works with the communications team to create, iterate, and improve the SASN website and extend platform functionality as part of next generation strategy
- Guides the technology strategy for the website, including primary, and all secondary sites and ensures delivery of an accessible and engaging website
- Works with Drupal theming and template design as well as implements new views, blocks, page templates, and content types that work within the existing website theme
- Works independently on large-scale, complex website projects and design
- Integrates new technologies into websites and advanced applications
- Develop new websites and enhances existing websites and applications, working with related web products and technologies
- Designs and implements content management systems (currently Drupal); common web programming languages and databases (such as PHP/MySQL); and must understand and maintain large complex websites
- Troubleshoots problems on the website and/or related environments
- Works with other web developers, web designers, editorial specialists, data and business analysts, and product managers to create websites and web applications containing stakeholder required features and modifications
- Integrates features built by other web developers and web designers
- Remains current on advances in web technology and adapts to new design tools and techniques
- Prioritizes and manages multiple tasks and interacts successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University community to successfully attain project goals
- Provides technical advice and support to other departments and offices within SASN
- Key member of SASN applications and communications team and facilitates initiatives with other Rutgers University (RU) computing groups
- Work is performed in a manner that furthers the operational mission of SASN and RU-N and contributes to strategic goals
- Must be able to maintain professional demeanor and multitask in a fast-paced, customer service-focused environment and complete work with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of SASN, and RU-N, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience with three or more years of relevant work experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have advanced knowledge of Drupal programming, administration, and platform management
- Must have knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax, CSS, HTML, DHTML, XML, MySQL, and Adobe Photoshop (or similar software)
- Must be knowledgeable in Drupal Content Management System, web design and development, Pantheon platform, and graphic design concepts
- Requires the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University community
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of cloud computing and version control (Git/Github) a plus
Equipment Utilized
- Experience in HTML 5, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, Drupal CMS, MySQL, design skills, Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent software), Web Page design, Web Forms design, Drupal themes, responsive design and accessibility compliance
- Must be familiar with or learn the office equipment, software, and specialized programs and/or materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer-service focused, team environment with requirement to skillfully and professionally handle multiple shifting priorities, complex projects, changing project specifications and stakeholder requests, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University and vendor community
- Lift and move up to 30 pounds and install and troubleshoot relevant equipment
