Overview
We are currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer located in Orlando, Florida with experience specific to the design and/or construction of residential and/or commercial buildings to assist in the determination of the cause, origin and extent of construction defects, structural failures, water intrusions and other failures. An understanding and proficiency of installation standards, practices and procedures within the building construction industry is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Duties in this key position involve the investigation and analysis of residential, commercial and industrial properties for the purpose of resolving claims and legal matters.
  • Assignments may include contract disputes, installation deficiencies, material deficiencies, site evaluations, settlement investigations, structural assessments, and vibration analyses.
  • Duties include gathering photographic evidence, conducting investigations to document on-site conditions, overseeing field-testing and reviewing historical documentation.
  • Preparation of oral and written reports to document the causes of failure, extent of loss, associated repair scope and recommended remediation are essential as is providing opinions and expert testimony in litigation matters.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering, required. Masters Degree, preferred.
  • 10 years minimum experience.
  • PE License in Florida required.
  • NCEES record preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundamental architectural and/or engineering principles, construction and building component assemblies.
  • Willingness to obtain General Contractor License.
  • The ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing to clients and other involved parties the details of the project's engineering/architectural issues.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to perform inspections in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to inspect building roof structures.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, work from stationary and moveable scaffolding, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
